Payments and hardware
Peripherals behind adapters, signed off per device, enabled per company.
The register never talks to a vendor SDK directly. Printing goes through a print service, scanning through a scan service, terminals through a tender terminal service, scales through a scale service. Each adapter ships with a simulator test suite and a live sign-off checklist.

Payment terminals
Integrated where it is proven, standalone everywhere else.
Integrated adaptersZVT and OPI protocol adapters proven against simulators; vendor adapters for the markets you sell in (candidates named with the first customers) are enabled per company only after a live sign-off with the physical device.
Standalone modeAny terminal works today: the cashier keys the amount on the device and records the approval code and the last four digits on the register; the payment posts with its reference.
Offline cardsA per-company policy lets a card sale be taken while the terminal is offline, within a floor limit, flagged on the ticket and forwarded later.
